#ArtLitPhx: District 4 Presents: Ed Tankersley

District 4 will be hosting local poet and fiction writer Ed Tankersley at Jarrod’s Coffee, Tea & Gallery (154 W Main St, Mesa, Arizona 85201) where he will be reading new poems.

Ed Tankersley is a  writer from Phoenix, Arizona, his current writing project is The Distance Between Us, a contemporary novel. An excerpt from his novel-in-progress was published in Four Chambers issue 2 in October 2014, and it received a positive notice in The Review Review.

In January 2016, he recorded three of his poems for the Telepoem Booth project, a classic phone booth on which fans can dial up a poem for a listen on a rotary phone.

#ArtLitPhx: District 4 Presents: Melissa Dunmore

Join District 4 for a beautiful evening with local poet and artist Melissa Dunmore! Melissa Dunmore  is an Afro-Boricua was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and transplanted to Phoenix, Arizona where she studied at Arizona State University. She is a performing artist and producer for Mujeres del Sol , a collective of women and girls in the arts. Dunmore’s bilingual poetry has been published by Mujeres de Maiz, Fem Static, and St. Sucia, as well as in a forthcoming anthology, Song of Yemaya.

Bring your friends, family and co-workers to the sweetest venue- Jarrod’s Coffee, Tea and Gallery. Pop up bookstore by Bonny Books will have hot titles and books by local poets and authors. As always, they will have a limited open mic prior to the feature. Come early to secure your spot on the sign up sheet, a beverage, and seat!

 

#ArtLitPhx: An Evening of Nerdy Poetry, Featuring The Klute

On Thursday May 18 from 7-9PM, District 4 will be hosting An Evening of Nerdy Poetry, Featuring the nationally touring slam poet, The Klute. Get a head start on Phoenix Comic-con with poems themed with sci-fi, comics, video games, and more. Learn about nerd poetry history, including the Secret Nerd Poet Council upcoming at this year’s Phoenix Comic-con.

There will be a poetry reading and coffee and snacks will be available for purchase. You could also win your very own sonic screwdriver during the trivia contest.

District 4 meets on the third Thursday of each month at Jarrod’s Coffee, Tea and Gallery at 154 W Main St, Mesa, AZ 85201. More information can be found on the Facebook event here.

District 4: Four Chambers Takeover

Four Chambers Press is taking over the mic at District 4! Pam Davenport, Jaime Faulkner, and Orlinda Pacheco  will be featured on Thursday, January 19th, at 7pm. Check out the Facebook Event page for more information.

Pam Davenport settled in Arizona after traveling the world throughout her childhood. She thinks it is strange for humans to live in the desert, which is probably why she is there. Pam has an MFA from Pacific University, and her poems have recently appeared in The Avalon Literary Review, Snapdragon, Rougarou, Pittsburgh Poetry Review, Spilled Milk Magazine, and Bared: An Anthology on Bras and Breasts

Jaime Faulkner is a student and poet living in Tempe, Arizona. She’s been writing privately since she can remember and publicly for the last year. She has published with Four Chambers and Fem Static Zine.

Orlinda Pacheco is an MFA graduate from California State University, San Bernardino whose poetry embraces the sacred with the profane. Her poetic moans grope at the reality of infertility and expands the walls of being female. Her work has appeared in the Badlands Literary Journal, Inlandia, Poemeleon, and San Diego Poetry Annual.
