Unintended Consequences: Artistic Collaboration between Three Past Contributors

Carolyn Lavender, Monica Aissa Martinez, and Mary Shindell

Artists Carolyn Lavender, Monica Aissa Martinez, and Mary Shindell, known for their previous exhibit Creature-Man-Nature at Mesa Art Center, have come together for a project titled Unintended Consequences to be showcased at Center Space at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The project tells the story of life in Arizona through a combination of biology, botany, and zoology, all expressed in paintings done by the three artists.

Registration and directions can be found by visiting the Center Space’s website here. Their project’s opening ceremony is on Friday, February 17th from 7:00PM to 8:00PM Arizona time. Tickets are free. Beyond the opening ceremony, the group’s paintings can be viewed at the Center Space from February 17th through May 28th.

Event Description:

Jeffery Meyer conducts the ASU Symphony Orchestra in a dramatic program of Eastern European works influenced by events of World War II, featuring Yuhui Li on piano, 2018 Concerto Competition winner. Core repertoire works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Béla Bartók are performed with Krzysztof Penderecki’s avant-garde Threnody and the masterpiece of neoclassicism Concerto for String Orchestra by pioneering female composer Grażyna Bacewicz.

Event Description:

The Art House Cinema Series is new to Scottsdale Arts this season. New films will be added throughout the season.

The Rural Route Film Festival was created to highlight works that deal with people and places outside the bustle of the city. It includes films that tackle some of the most important topics of the day in the slow food movement, global warming/environment and sustainability, including one on a London poacher and forager and another about a UFO festival encounter in a small Wisconsin town.

NOTE: “Scenes of farm/rural practices and animated violence are realistically depicted and may be upsetting to some audience members.”

Rural Route Film Festival Director and Founder Alan Webber will do a Skype Q&A following the screening.
